Former Adel At-Large City Council Member and Adel Ice Co. owner Buddy Duke was elected Mayor of the City of Adel during a special municipal election held Tuesday, June 16, 2015.
Duke received 368 votes, or 66.55 percent of the total, as compared to 140 votes, or 25.32 percent, for Curtis Haag and 42 votes, or 7.59 percent, for Aulton White. Duke will serve the unexpired term of retired Mayor Richard C. Barr through Dec. 31, 2015. The Mayorʼs office will be up for election again in November, this time for a four-year term that will begin Jan. 1, 2016.
A runoff election will be held Tuesday, July 14, for the top two finishers in the Adel At-Large City Council race, Michael Purvis, who received 189 votes, or 33.63 percent of the total, and Ronald Mitchell, who received 114 votes, or 20.28 percent. The other candidates were Hans Heitlauf Jr. with 59 votes (10.50 percent); Linda W. Meadows with 96 votes (17.08 percent); and Vivian Denise Sharpe with 104 votes (18.51 percent).
Early voting is expected to begin June 29 for two weeks prior to the regular election day.
