Keeping utility costs low and capacity high, Cook County positions business and industry to enjoy the high productivity and profitability necessary for bottom-line competitiveness.
Water:
While other locales in Georgia have to cope with restricted water resources, Cook County offers a powerful asset in a municipally supplied, low-cost, high capacity water system, with 9 million gallons of available capacity per day. For agricultural processors and other industries, this is a crucial competitive advantage.
Electricity:
Cook County has acted strategically to provide the best possible electrical service and rates for businesses and residents, and that has meant choosing publicly provided power. Supported by a membership in Electric Cities of Georgia, Adel is one of the 49 communities supplying power through wholesale energy from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG), a community-owned, not-for-profit entity with a 566-megawatt capacity. Public power for residential users, on average, costs 14% less than investor-owned power and 9% less for commercial users.
Cook County commercial users of large loads (900 kw or larger) also enjoy an added option: the availability of customer choice, allowing users to select one of three providers—the City of Adel/MEAG Power; Colquitt EMC, another not-for-profit, member-owned Georgia electric cooperative; and Georgia Power, a major regional utility owned by the Southern Company, the fourth largest utility company in the U.S.
Gas:
The City of Adel also offers publicly provided gas and is a member of Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia (MGAG), the largest non-profit natural gas joint action agency in the U.S., serving customers not only in Georgia, but also in Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania.

Telecommunications and Data:
Cook County’s telecommunication needs are served by Georgia Public Web (GPW) and Windstream Corporation. Georgia Public Web operates more than 3500 miles of fiber optic backbone, connecting major metropolitan areas and harder-to-reach rural areas. GPW's optical fiber network offers fast low-latency connectivity, from 1 Mbps to 100 Gbps speeds, including Wavelength, Carrier Ethernet, and SONET/TDM. Windstream is a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and is located in every state. They offer fiber, fixed wireless, Cloud-hosted VoIP and data storage.
