During a VIP guest opening night on Monday, Walmart Store 7194 of Adel presented a total of $8,000 in grant money from the Walmart Foundation to local organizations that benefit the community.
Walmart officials wanted to show that not only will the 24-hour-a-day store employ up to 300 full- and part-time associates and generate local tax dollars, but the business also will be an active supporter of local efforts in community advancement.
During Monday’s event, Walmart Manager Marcus Johnston presented a $1,000 donation to the Adel Police Department, a $1,000 donation to the Adel-Cook Recreation Department, a $1,500 donation to the Boys and Girls Club of the Greater Cook County Area, a $2,000 donation to Cook County Family Connection, a $1,000 donation to Toys for Tots, a $1,000 donation to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation South Inc., and a $500 donation to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Johnston said the Walmart company as a whole in 2015 provided $1.4 billion in donations and in-kind contributions to local communities like this hometown.
As for the store opening, he thanked the management team, the store planning team, and all the associates for their hard work. He emphasized Walmart’s motto, “Save money and live better.”
A crowd of community leaders gathered at the store for a preview of the facilities inside prior to this morning’s (April 20) official grand opening at 7:30 a.m. The Adel-Cook County Chamber of Commerce was scheduled to host a ribbon cutting.
Walmart treated the guests on Monday with refreshments including pizza and cupcakes with blue and yellow icing formed into a replica of the familiar Walmart logo.
The approximately 123,000-square-foot Walmart Supercenter is located at 351 Alabama Road.
