The City of Cecil is looking at improving the sewer system, which has experienced much surface water infiltration, says Cecil Mayor James Spencer Sr.
This extra flow increases the amount that Cecil has to pay to Adel in sewer pumping fees, Spencer said. “Our system is too new for that. Our engineers are already looking into it.”
The City may apply for a grant to correct the problem, the mayor said.
Under the 2016 SPLOST renewal, Cecil would receive $82,500 for roads, streets, and bridges, general capital outlay, and recreation. Equipment is really needed, with the City having to lease a tractor with a backhoe, Spencer said.
Cecil would like to attract new companies and housing development, Spencer said, adding that a new City ordinance similar to the one in Adel would allow for condos, duplexes, and apartments.
As for Cecil events, Constance Davis and Lamar Williams plan to organize a Community Day in November. The event would be on a bigger scale than the one held last year.
Mayor Spencer also noted that the City has hired a new city clerk, Stephanie Boyd. Former City Clerk Flo Guest is continuing to help out at the office and train Ms. Boyd.
