County Commissioner Michael Dinnerman made a motion, seconded by County Commissioner Jeff Lane, last week to approve the 2016 Community Development Block Grant award package for River Trace and Oak Trace subdivisions.
All voted in favor of authorizing Chairman Randy Lane’s signature on the grant award package.
The grant includes $500,000 for flood/drainage and street improvements in those communities, along with contingencies - unprogrammed funds and administration.
The match and leverage budget includes: $10,000 match for street improvements (engineering); $41,570 in leverage for flood and drainage facilities (engineering); $2,726 in leverage for street improvements (construction); $1,000 in leverage for administration (audit); $3,000 in leverage for administration (grant prep); and $4,500 in leverage for street improvements (PER). The total match and leverage budget is $62,796.
The County Commissioners will receive a formal presentation of the $500,000 grant from state officials at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Fall Conference, scheduled for Nov. 1 and 2, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah.

2017 van and truck bids (USDA)
Commissioner Michael Dinnerman made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Dwight Purvis, to accept a $28,953.44 bid from Cook County Ford for a 2017 15- passenger van (to be used by the 4-H program).
Also, as part of the action, the Commissioners unanimously accepted a $27,456.44 low bid from Cook County Ford for a 2017 crew cab 4x4 truck (to be used in the Road Department). The competing bid was $33,188 for a 2017 crew cab 4x4 truck from Prince Chevrolet. The motion included language that the bids were accepted contingent upon the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) appropriating funds for vehicle purchases.
The County had budgeted $25,000 for both; the remainder will be made up from the general fund.
Nov. 21 meeting cancellation
Commissioner Jeff Lane made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Debra Robinson, to cancel the Monday, Nov. 21, meeting.
All voted in favor. During the week of Nov. 14 to 18, County Clerk Vicki Parrish and County Administrator Faye Hughes will be in training. They would not be in the office to prepare the agenda for the Nov. 21 meeting.
Fiscal Year 2018 5311 Rural Transportation application
Commissioner Robinson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Purvis, to adopt the 5311 Rural Transportation Resolution, and to authorize Chairman Randy Lane’s endorsement on the FY2018 application forms. All voted in favor.
Adopting the resolution is a requirement to apply for FY2018 funding for the 5311 Rural Transportation grant (public transit system). The contract that coincides with the FY2018 application will be presented for board approval later in the year or early 2017.
