Cook County’s economic revival is continuing. Lenox Mayor Henry P. Baker Jr. announced last week that a new business will be coming to Lenox: TransPower Inc., a company that services 18-wheeler trucks.
TransPower will be hiring approximately 60 people within the next two years, Mayor Baker announced during the Monday, June 5, City Council meeting.
The City is applying for an Employment Incentive Program (EIP) grant to help with paving and water and sewer, the infrastructure needed to support the company’s location in Lenox. Company officials hope to have a ribbon cutting on Oct. 1.
TransPower is affiliated with the Fred Taylor Company out of Albany. TransPower has been serving the South Georgia medium and heavy duty truck market since 1959 and currently has locations in Albany, Douglas, and Valdosta. TransPower is a distributor for Mack Trucks Inc., Kenworth Trucks Company, and Ford Motor Company.
In addition, TransPower also is a distributor of vocational trailers from East Manufacturing Company and Peerless Trailers Inc.
TransPower also provides parts, service, and sales for the products it distributes. TransPower carries a parts inventory in excess of $1.8 million in replacement parts for customers.
All TransPower facilities provide stateof-the art equipment for repairs and the company’s Albany location has a paint and body and trailer repair facility.
In addition, TransPower offers the largest paint booth in Southwest Georgia, which is state of the art to provide superb quality painting.
TransPower is the project that the Cook Economic Development Commission worked on for two years - Project Rig. The company was planning to build in the Industrial Park, but a location in Lenox was a better fit. TransPower plans to open in the 100,000-square-foot building that Scot Corbett owns right off Interstate 75 at the Lenox exit.
Lenox will also be getting a doctor in the near future, Mayor Baker said.
