Another opportunity identified in the Greater Cook County 2030 Comprehensive Plan was the usage of all of the six Interstate 75 interchanges in Cook County.
Two of those interchanges lie inside the city limits of Adel. A corridor redevelopment plan is in the works for Exit 39 (Highway 37). The community leadership also has big plans for Interchange 37 (Old Quitman Highway).
Several major hurdles have already been jumped, said Lisa Collins, executive director of the Cook County Economic Development Commission. “Soon the Adel City Council will make the decision to contract for a corridor redevelopment study to be done simultaneously with the Highway 37 corridor.”
Why is this study of this interchange also important?
This corridor will be the main road into Cook Medical Center’s new replacement facility.
“A hotel feasibility study has been completed, and we already have two investors interested in placing a hotel at the interchange,” Lisa Collins added.
“We envision a conference center next to the hotel, thereby making this interchange another source of jobs, and tax revenue for the community.”
