The Adel City Council voted unanimously last week to adopt a resolution for the Alabama Road extension that would accommodate a new Walmart Supercenter near I-75 Exit 39.
Resolution #15-01 acknowledged the need for relocating and paving an extension of Alabama Road and acknowledged the need for construction of drainage channel improvements. The resolution also authorized City Manager John Flythe to proceed with advertising and acceptance of such bids, and entering into a contract upon Walmart’s closing on the purchase of property for the new store location.
Councilman Butch Fausett made a motion to adopt the resolution. Councilman Jody Greene seconded. The decision in favor was unanimous.
Walmart had extended their option to purchase Adel property until Jan. 9. That decision has now been reportedly postponed for two more weeks. A new Walmart Supercenter here would employ up to 200 people.
