The Adel-Cook County Chamber of Commerce has recognized Lenox Mayor Dot Revels Cloud as 2014 Woman of the Year and construction company owner Brian Stone as 2014 Man of the Year.
Upon receiving the award during the annual Chamber dinner last Thursday night, Mrs. Cloud said, “Thank you so much for the best honor I have ever received.” She credited much of her and her town’s success to the City of Lenox staff, who are “the best employees in the world.”
Mrs. Cloud has worked hard from her beginning as a factory worker to Lenox mayor, currently serving her second term. Among much more prior community service, Mrs. Cloud worked 34 years as Lenox city clerk and served two terms as the first woman ever elected to the Cook County Board of Commissioners. “I’m tough on domestic violence and I will always fight for a better Cook County,” she says.
Pat Bush and Sharon Harnage also were nominated for Woman of the Year. Brian Stone said he gratefully received the Man of the Year award in memory of his father. He also remarked about the positive impact his mother and employees of his construction business have had on his success.
Like Mayor Cloud, Stone has worked hard to reach for his dreams. At the age of 13, hegot his first paying job. He credited Wayne and David Shirah with teaching him the “ins and outs” of the construction business. Brian Stone Construction employs more than 10 fulltime people and more than 100 people associated with the sub-contractors. Stone would like to see improvements to all the rundown and dilapidated houses and buildings in the community. To that end, he fixed up houses on Elm Street to benefit the residents.
His motto is, “The only way to do great work, is to love what you do.”
William Bush and Benny Lindsey also were nominated for 2014 Man of the Year
