There hasn’t been much reported publicly in recent weeks about the Walmart Supercenter planned at I-75 Exit 39. But the City of Adel is continuing to prepare services needed for the huge retailer expected to employ more than 200 people.
Work is expected to begin soon on paving and drainage improvements for Alabama Street that will benefit traffic flow in the area of Adel’s Walmart.
City Manager John Flythe told the City Council Monday night that the City will be taking bids on the road and drainage improvements for Alabama on June 3, 2015. The award will be subject to the actual purchase of land by Walmart from Williams Investment Co., which should be on or around June 15, 2015, Flythe said.
On Monday, the Adel City Council acted on part of the utilities relocation and enhancements needed in support of the project. The Council voted unanimously to accept the Irby Company’s low bid for a 1500KVA transformer, $15,715, which will be placed in that area. (The other bids were Tri-State, $18,865, and Wesco, $20,265.)
