The Cook County Commissioners plan no tax increase as they prepare for the Fiscal Year 2018 budget adoption, according to County Administrator Faye Hughes.
On Monday afternoon, June 19, the Board of Commissioners reviewed budget requests they have received from various county departments for Fiscal Year 2018.
During the regular meeting later on June 19, Commissioner Debra Robinson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Audie Rowe, to set the official calendar for the FY 2018 budget adoption. All voted in favor.
County Administrator Faye Hughes had a general fund budget prepared to be presented to the Board. Once the Board has reviewed and is satisfied with the proposed budget, a public hearing must be held to adopt the budget.
The County Commissioners intend to adopt the budget prior to the tax millage being set. Chief Appraiser Larry Arnold told county officials that millage could not be set until Aug. 21, due to assessment notices not going out until June 9.
The Fiscal Year 2018 budget for Cook County will be presented to the Board of Commissioners at 6 p.m. Monday, July 3. A copy of the proposed budget is available for public review at the Cook County Commissioners’ Office, 1200 S. Hutchinson Ave., Adel., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A public hearing on the budget will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 3, at the Commissioners’ Office. Any persons wishing to be heard on the budget may appear. A sign-in sheet will be available at the door should you wish to speak concerning budget matters.
The final draft of the FY 2018 proposed budget will be presented for adoption to the Cook County Board of Commissioners at 6 p.m. Monday, July 17.
